The site is a residential project in Shanghai consisting of residential towers and apartment blocks designed by Roger Stirk Harbour & Partners (RSHP), embedded in a landscape of approximately 2.5 hectares. The concept inspiration for the landscape design arose out of the site’s location close to Sijing Town. ‘Sijing’ translates as ‘4 rivers’, as the town is located on a junction where 4 streams meet. The river provided good transport connections for business and Sijing Town became a rich town near Shanghai. The four rivers, symbolizing wealth and well-being, became the guiding principle for the landscape concept
Water animates the development and provides a central focal point around which residents can gather and meet. The site is lightly contoured to allow ‘streams’ or channels to flow into a central shallow pool. Themed gardens are aligned in a south-east to north-west direction while lawn areas are placed perpendicular to the themed gardens. Water channels emphasize the diagonal axis of the buildings, whilst blocks of trees and shrubs enclose individual garden spaces, creating a varied environment which encourages a sense of discovery.
Public space shared by the residents frames the club house, one of the major shared facilities for the residents. Play and sports are distributed across the site.
