King's Dock

Liverpool, United Kingdom | 2005-2008

The landscape design for the King’s Waterfront by Gustafson Porter + Bowman creates a fluid ground plane which unifies the existing dock and quayside levels with the raised entrance levels of the new Arena and Convention Centre by Wilkinson Eyre.

The landscape not only allows for the smooth circulation of large numbers of visitors to and from the new complex, but also provides opportunities for resting, informal gathering and outdoor events. Liverpool’s Kings Waterfront was a focal point for the city’s Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008, providing a multipurpose 10,000 seat Arena, Convention Centre and exhibition facility supported by a major new public space. Most of the paved areas are designed for vehicular loading and can be used as outdoor exhibition spaces supporting the Convention Centre.
