60 Curzon Street

60 Curzon Street, London | 2016 - 2023

Located in the historic Mayfair Conservation Area, 60 Curzon Street is one of Mayfair’s finest new residential developments. Gustafson Porter + Bowman led the concept design for the development’s central courtyard space, a 0.4 acre site which enjoys close proximity to Hyde Park, Green Park and world class retail. The building rises from this central shared garden, a rarity in Mayfair, with private balconies and stepped terraces on each level and is inspired by a context that is rich in heritage but also re-establishing itself as a contemporary arts and cultural district.

A linear water feature, in alignment with the architectural axis, provides a focal point to the courtyard and pulls light into the space; reflecting the sky and tree canopies above. A level change halfway along the water feature results in two distinct experiences of the garden from either end. The raised planting terrace to the north-western end ensures additional soil depth to allow for trees and creates a seating wall along the paved terrace edge. Stone steps provide access to the raised garden area.

The massing has been carefully sculpted to provide a smooth transition of scale from surrounding buildings, key to this is the new planting, public art, and extended pavements at street level which have been installed to comfortably integrate the development into the surrounding public realm.
